Are Washington County Court Records Public?

Yes. Washington County court records are public records; however, access is not provided by the Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law. Access to court records in Pennsylvania is furnished by the Case Records Public Access Policy of the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania (204 Pa. Code § 213.81). The policy grants members of the public the right to read or obtain copies of court records in the state and, at the same time, restricts public access to certain records and information. Washington County Court Records Search

A Washington County court records search can be done using any of the following options:

Online Access

Individuals can search for Washington County court records online through two primary platforms: the Pennsylvania Unified Judicial System (UJS) Web Portal and the Washington County C-Track Public Portal. The C-Track Public Portal may be used to access civil court records, estate records, and marriage licenses. Criminal and traffic records can be searched on the Pennsylvania Unified Judicial System Web Portal. However, the UJS Portal only provides access to case docket sheets.

Users can search for a record by name or case number on both the C-Track Public Portal and the Pennsylvania UJS Portal. Users may also register an account on the C-Track Public Portal to be able to purchase documents.

In-Person Access

Researchers who need to view physical documents that are not uploaded online can access the documents in person at the appropriate Clerk of Court's Office. Individuals may visit the office with the case details, such as the case number, filing date, and the names of the parties to the case. Inquirers may inspect the record as it is on file or request personal copies.

Public terminals are also available at the Prothonotary's Office, the Register of Wills/Office of the Clerk of the Orphans' Court, and the Washington County courthouse. Individuals can search for case records in the county using these self-service terminals.

Mail and Phone Requests

Washington County court records can also be requested through the mail. Individuals may write the request, including their name and contact details, the case number, the names of the people involved, when the case happened, and the documents they need. Requesters should call the custodian's office ahead of time to find out the cost of copies. Payment should be included along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

The fees for court records in Washington County depend on the method of access and whether copies are involved. Online access via the Pennsylvania UJS Portal and the Washington County C-Track Public Portal is free, although a fee is charged for documents purchased through the C-Track Public Portal. Criminal Records Access in Washington County

Criminal records in Washington County are generally categorized into law enforcement and judicial records. Law enforcement criminal records include arrest, jail, and prison records, while the judiciary maintains all documents related to the criminal trial resulting from the arrest.

Members of the public can access an arrest record from the law enforcement agency that made the arrest. The Pennsylvania State Police maintains criminal history records, which contain the criminal data of individuals in the state. Individuals can obtain a criminal history record by submitting a request through the Pennsylvania Access to Criminal History (PATCH) or by completing and mailing the SP 4-164 form to the police.
